Gardens and Herbs in Urban Space

Today I visited Citizen Farm again and volunteered there! We (5 vounteers) removed some mould, topped up compost and sprayed them with anti-fungi solution. It was a meaningful 2 hours there.  Some new plants that I saw were Lemon Balm, Red Vein Sorrel, Okinawa Spinach, Marigolds, and Spearmint. It was also interesting to know that the suscriptors support local farmers and champion local food.   Basil  Marigolds  Okinawa Spinach  Lavender  Rooster  Basil Stacked towers All in all, it was a good 2 hours! 

Today we (Dad and I) volunteered at Lor Chencharu's Ground-up Initiative (GUI) at Kampung Kampus near Orto park at Khatib! It is a small community of volunteers who farm the land and turn it into  2.6 hectares of lush land. Its vision is based on the 5 Gs: Gracious, Green, Grounded and Grateful - which is part of the 21st Century Kampung Culture.  They provide a space and opportunity for any volunteer to come and  reconnect people to nature. They also  reach out to the community through workshops (including wood craft), tours around their farm and selling organic produce at affordable prices! Today we did weeding for a total of 2 hours. The dry grass collected is then used for mulching and covering the earth used for planting. Nutrients then go back to the soil for the plants to absorb. It is very therapeutic to be part of the cycle of nature. The volunteers there were very welcoming, and we could see their smile on their faces as they connected back to earth...
